Back in 2007, when I was in 7th grade, I began volunteering with a wonderful organization called, Friendship Circle of Miami. This organization is a local organization serving both typical and special needs children. What The Friendship Circle does is pair a typical child with a special needs child. The typical child is to go to the special needs child's home for an hour a week, play with them, hang out with them, talk, really become their friend.

When I first started at The Friendship Circle, I thought I was doing something really amazing for the special needs community. It wasn't until later in life that I realized what amazing things the special needs community and The Friendship Circle had done for me.

When I first started with The Friendship Circle I was partnered with two little boys, both brothers who had Asperger. However, that never stopped them being the two smartest, most energetic little boys I ever knew. I remember one of them had a map of the world on the wall in his room. I would walk up and back the wall, and ask him, for example, "Where is Vatican City?" and he would respond, "Morgan! That's easy!" and run to the other side of the room to point out exactly where it was on the map. Those little boys shaped my love for the special needs children within our community and are still to this day, two boys that I will always have a special place in my heart for.

I was then partnered with two blonde-haired, blue-eyed, adorable twin sisters. One had Cerebyl Palsy, while the other did not. Back then, there was no difference between the two girls that the eye could see. After all, at two-years-old, they both just crawled everywhere. However, as they got older, differences became visible, mostly in regard to one having a walker, while the other did not. However, that never stopped them from BOTH being on the cheerleading team at school, getting good grades, and doing makeup tutorials on Youtube.

I went away to Florida State University, and in my years there I remained in touch with the families whose children had so strongly impacted my life. So when I moved back to Miami, it was only natural for me to continue to work with them again, only this time not for community service hours, but because The Friendship Circle truly did accomplish their mission, making us very best friends.

Every year The Friendship Circle raises awareness for all the work they do helping typical children and special needs children alike through a walk they put on called, Walking For Friendship.

This year I plan on walking to show my support of this great cause.

If any of you care to join my team and show support of this great organization please advise me and I will add you to my team. Also, if you would care to donate please click on the link below. Your response would mean a great deal to me and to all the children this wonderful organization has helped along the way.
